In March 2023, the European Commission adopted a proposal for a directive on Green Claims. The Commission’s proposal will now pass to the European Parliament and Council for consideration. In May 2023, the European Council has adopted its position on the proposed directive. Regularly, the whole process takes around 18 months, allowing time for business and other stakeholders to participate in a public consultation process and provide comments. However, in May the Council extended the transposition period to 24 months, allowing member states sufficient time to adapt the changes in the legislation.
