The EU Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability addresses the presence of PFAS in food by introducing limits in the legislation on food contaminants. In December 2022 the European Commission adopted new rules to limit the level of PFAS in certain foods which came into effect 1 January 2023.
Also, by the end of January 2023 five countries (DK, NL, NO, SE and DE) sent in a restriction proposal under REACH which more or less bans all uses of all PFAS. The restriction proposal also includes FCM. The final proposal will be published on 7 February 2023.
